The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s return to Brazil could feature middleweight champion Anderson “Spider” Silva defending his title against number one contender Yushin “Thunder” Okami.Silva (28-4) is coming off an incredible knockout victory over fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Okami (16-5) became the number one middleweight contender with a unanimous decision win over Nate Marquardt at UFC 122 in November 2010. Okami has always seemed to be on the doorstep of a title fight and he finds himself there once again after winning six of his last seven fights.
There has been a lot of speculation of a potential super-fight between Silva and current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. The buzz escalated following Silva’s knockout of Belfort. Both fighters have acknowledged the possible showdown but have stayed focus on their own title defenses. St-Pierre has a tough task ahead when he defends his title against Jake Shields at UFC 129 on April 30th. However, if GSP gets by Shields does he leapfrog Okami? UFC Rio takes palce from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27th.
